品詞や構文にとらわれない

原文の名詞は必ず名詞として訳すとか、動詞は動詞として、副詞は副詞として訳すというような必要はないのです。例えば、上の２つ目の例文では「I think」（名詞＋動詞）を「どうやら」（副詞）と訳しました。同様に、「I am sure ～」というような表現は、「きっと～（でしょう）」等と訳せますね。

通常の英文和訳方式ですと、「… U.K. researchers have found that …」という部分は、「英国の研究者は（that以下）ということを発見しました」のように訳すかもしれません。しかし、上の訳例では、「英国の研究者が発見したのは（that以下）ということです」と訳しています。

通常なら、「his several attempts to ~~」というフレーズは「彼の何度かの試み」と訳すかもしれませんが、この名詞（句）を動詞的に訳しています。

ここでも、「A quick look」という名詞（句）を動詞的に訳しています。

この例でも、「A little reflection」という名詞（句）は動詞的に訳していますね。これでも構わないのです。これを英文和訳方式で「少しの考察が～～ということを示すでしょう」などと訳すと、聞き手に伝わりにくいかもしれません。

比較表現も順送りに訳す

Nothing is more important to me and Ned than our family, and all we request right now is that you respect our privacy for the sake of our kids. (Today, Oct. 4, 2022)

Remember, nothing is more triggering for Trump than someone or something that’s attached to the name Obama. (MSNBC, September 12, 2022)

他動詞を自動詞的に訳す

これに関して一つ気を付けたいのは、できれば、訳ではまったく同じ表現を２度使うのではなく異なる言い方をするほうが望ましいということです。例えば、「・・・世界的な取り組みへの参加を 表明し 、2020年までに1000億ドルの資金動員を目指すと 表明しました 」などと訳すと、少しぎこちないと思います。同意語や同意表現を多く持ち合わせているといいですね。

従属節がセンテンスの後半にある場合も順送り訳

「no matter what ~~」のような従属節が最後にある場合も、可能であれば、頭ごなしに訳していきます。

最後の例は「all while ~~」がつかわれているセンテンスです。

関係節も順送り訳

「to 不定詞句」も順送り訳

文頭の副詞句は即座に訳出

「～のは」、「～ですが」、「～でしょうが」、「～しましたが」、「～けれども」などの表現を駆使

日本語訳が分からない語句の対応策

しかし、２つ目の文に含まれる地名の羅列の中で、「the eastern portion of Mexico’s Chiapas state」の訳が即座に思いつかないという状況を想定してください。どうしますか？私なら、その場合は、「ベリーズ、湾岸諸島、グアテマラ北部やメキシコのタバスコ州などでは、嵐によって 4 インチないし 6 インチの雨が降る可能性があるとのことです」と訳すと思います。

時間が無い（ついていけない）ときは一部簡略化

この部分を通訳していて、もしも、時間内にすべての情報を入れることができなければ、どこを省くでしょうか？私なら、最後の「and it hangs in the balance」を省略します。なぜなら、その直前の「… is in doubt」と同様の意味内容を表現している部分だからです。そこを省いても、スピーチの重要なところはすべて聞き手に届きます。

この文を訳していて時間が十分ない場合は、どこを省きましょうか？私なら、「all be safer」あるいは「all be more secure」のどちらかです。この２つの部分の意味は類似しているからです。
