The exhibition began on Saturday. Renowned artist Rafiqun Nabi chaired the inaugural ceremony.
Education minister Dipu Moni was present as chief guest while dean of fine arts faculty of Dhaka University Nisar Hossain was present as special guest at the programme.
‘Mostafizul Haque worked heavily with water colour and oil paint during his student days. He has also mastered the traditional Japanese nihonga painting style. He has constructed his own artistic language combining artistic techniques used in both eastern and western art,’ said Sumon Wahid.
‘After he joined the FFA as a faculty member in the 1990s, he took the initiative to develop an art education system for children. After he returned from Japan, he established an art school where children could learn art,’ said Nisar Hossain.
‘In my 50-year artistic journey, I have used pencil, watercolour, oil paint, acrylic, charcoal and nihonga style to create artworks. Although I have worked on many subject matters, galloping horses and strong roosters are recurring themes in my paintings,’ said Mostafizul Haque, who is a professor at the FFA.
‘During this long journey, I actively participated in establishing several art institutions and departments that helped to create artists. Some of the organisations are, namely Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangshad, Prabhati Art School, Centre for Child Creativity and others. I believe that in order to build a better nation, children must be allowed to develop an artistic mind,’ he added.
Mostafizul Haque is displaying more than 50 artworks that he created between 1973 and 2022 in the exhibition, which has been curated by Sumon Wahid.
The acrylic artwork titled Sprint IV, created in 2013, shows a galloping white horse. The painting portrays the backside view of a large white horse on a background comprising blue, red and black colours.
